Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I'm interested in commissioning a painting. How do I go about learning more?

A: Start by contacting me! We will schedule time to talk about your vision, and provide you with information. This is a great opportunity to answer any initial questions you have about commissioning a painting.

Q: Will I have an opportunity to be involved in the process?

A: Yes! The beauty of working directly with the artist is that we will collaborate to create a final concept you will be happy with. You will also have a chance to see the concept develop into a painting, and you will be a part of the final review.

Q: I'm interested in commissioning a portrait. Do you work from life or photograph?

A: Photographs ensure consistency, and are the best way to capture a likeness, especially for subjects where it's hard to arrange for multiple live sessions, like children and pets. Photographs also allow for portraits of loved ones that have passed away. It is important to work with a high-quality image, so you can share a photo you're interested in painting from, and we can make sure it's a workable option.

Q: I don't have a good quality photograph. What are my options?

A: We can arrange for a photo shoot session together where we can make sure we have quality images to work with. Oftentimes, clients like this option because a session may produce more than one good photograph, in which case you'd have the opportunity to choose the image you like best. You can also arrange for a photo shoot with a photographer of your own choosing.

Q: Is there a fee for a photo shoot session?

A: For locations beyond Thomasville and surrounding areas, a fee is charged to cover the artist's traveling expenses.

Q: How long does it typically take to complete a commission?

A: The timeline depends on the number of orders already in place, as well as the size and scope of your commission. The work could be completed in a few weeks or it may require months. We can establish a projected timeline when we develop the final concept, and have secured your order with a 50% downpayment. My top priority is to produce a high-quality painting that we will both be proud of. Some flexibility in the timeline is important for both of us to ensure the final product reflects what we envisioned. If you have a hard date that you would like the commission to be ready by, such as a special occasion or holiday, it's best to start the process as early as you can.

Q: What grade materials do you use?

A: I work with the highest-grade materials available- no exception. As with most things, raw materials and art supplies can vary greatly in quality, which will affect the look and feel of the finished painting and its longevity. From painting media to brushes to the grade of linen used, I rely on proven, tested and long-lasting materials that stand the test of time. If you'd like to learn more as you are comparing and researching commission options, feel free to ask me for more information on the types and kinds of materials I use.
